"Tuapse is Russia's second largest Black Sea port. Like Novorossiysk, it is a vital route for the export of crude oil. Tuapse s traditional traffic pattern also includes metals, fertilizers, coal, building materials, and foodstuffs. As trade increases, traffic at Tuapse is expected to double. To accommodate this anticipated growth, the Russian Ministry of Transport has approved a $720 million modernization project for Tuapse."

 Warning:  
Tuapse port by its location, size and hydro-meteorological conditions cannot be a port of refuge for vessels.
The most dangerous phenomenon is a swell  (resonance horizontal wavering of seawater) resulting from southern and southwestern winds locally named - "tyagun". When the "Tyagun" is moderate or heavy, vessels' entrance into the harbour and their staying alongside and at anchorage within the inner port waters are considered dangerous and even impossible. "Tyagun" accompanied with southwestern gale is extremely dangerous. While strong "tyagun" the height of waves goes up to 70 decimeters.  
While gale of southern directions rough seas may also be dangerous for vessels in the harbour, especially for those alongside piers Nos 9 and 9a
The port does not guarantee vessels their safe berthing and staying alongside while influence of the gale of southern directions and the "tyagun", as well as does not bear responsibility for consequences.
On receiving forecast about the moderate and heavy "tyagun" or on its factual development Shipmasters shall immediately put main engine on stand-by and leave for the open sea, as it is DANGEROUS to stay in the port harbour.
While leaving the sea gates Masters of large-capacity vessels shall remember and take into account that gales SE, S, SW, W cause considerable cross sea at the gates, what is dangerous while pitching of vessels with maximum draft, as vessel's keel may contact the bottom. Considerable drifting may occur under the influence of the wind and the current.
To avoid average cases vessels shall confine themselves close to the line of the leading marks where the waters are the deepest.  
When the wind speed is more than 14 m/sec, there is "tyagun", and visibility is less than 5 cables, vessels' entrance into the harbour, their sailing in its inner waters and mooring operations are prohibited. Vessels' movement along canals of the ShipYard area may be effected only when the wind speed is not more than 10 m/sec.  
Vessels which proceed to Tuapse port, shall have enough safe ropes for additional mooring required while influence of the most dangerous hydro-meteorological phenomenon "tyagun" and/or the winds pushing a vessel from a berth.  
When in receipt of a gale warning (gale more than 14 m/sec, "tyagun" – height of swell  up to 2,0m,  changes in the gale direction and force) Port Control Officer will immediately warn all vessels lying alongside by all means available and jointly with the Port Dispatcher Services takes measures for transport vessels to leave for the open sea. The hydro-meteorological conditions permitting one vessel  may be left along the dry cargo berths and one vessel along oil terminal quays.  
For vessels lying alongside and on the roads the following hydro-meteorological conditions are dangerous:  
southern gales blowing with speed mor e than 14 m/sec
rough sea of more than 4 points in force. (the swell height being more than 2,0 m)
the most dangerous hydro-meteorological phenomenon is heavy (swell height – more than 4,5 m) and moderate (swell height – from 3,0 to 4,5 m) "tyagun" independent of the wind direction and speed.
Should danger of breaking loose be imminent Shipmaster shall urgently order tugs to keep the vessel alongside while sending ashore additional mooring lines.

Tuapse (Russian: Туапсе́; Adyghe: ТIуапсэ) is a town in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, situated on the northeast shore of the Black Sea, south of Gelendzhik and north of Sochi. It is the administrative center of Tuapsinsky District. Population: 64,238 (2002 Census);[1] 63,081 (1989 Census).[2] Tuapse is a sea port and the northern centre of a resort zone which extends south to Sochi.
Tuapse is a large centre (native land) for the Shapsugs tribe with other areas in Circassia, with about 10,000 speakers of the language living in Tuapse. The name of the town is itself Adyghe (tʷʼa.psə, or "two waters") since Tuapse was part of historical Circassia before the russian invasion to Caucasus, and it was occupied during the rule of Czar Alexander I of Russia, from the period 1801-1825 , although it was also attested in early Greek sources as Topsida.
The modern settlement was founded in 1838 as the Russian fort of Velyaminovskoye. A year later, the Shapsugs regain and razed it (based on the russians story), but it was promptly rebuilt. During the Crimean War, the Ottomans seized the fort and held it for two years (1857-1859). Between 1875 and 1897 the village was known as Velyaminovsky Posad; it received municipal rights in 1916.
The Soviets developed Tuapse as an oil terminal and depot. An oil pipeline from Grozny and Maikop was in operation by 1928, designed by Vladimir Shukhov. An oil refinery dates from the same period. The German military during World War II attempted to seize its facilities during the Battle of the Caucasus, which caused major damage to the city.
The Russian Children Center Orlyonok (former All-Russian SFSR Young Pioneer camp) is located there. The world chess champion Vladimir Kramnik and 2005 Miss Universe winner, Natalie Glebova, were born in Tuapse.
